All One Family
23x23" unframed fiber collage with freestyle machine stitching. This was a commission. There are hidden hints and images within the forest. It is reminiscent of the golden Aspen forests of Colorado, U.S.A. During the process of creating this flag, my own family faced some challenges, as did the family of humanity, as did nature. The rich colors and golden radiance in this drew me in soothingly as the images evolved.

Dawn Comes After Even the Longest Night
23x23" unframed fiber collage with freestyle machine stitching. In the spring of 2021, I struggled with health issues and depression that had me wondering if I would ever make another prayer flag. Ultimately, through practices, patience and openness to what the Great Collaborator had in store, I found my self able to feel gratitude one day for the depression and challenges, knowing these had something to teach me. A few days later, in a thrift store, I happened upon a yellow lace dress that practically jumped into my hands. The next day, in the studio, this flag was formed around one of the roses in the lace.

Doll_The Silence Beneath our Thoughts
25x25" framed fiber collage with freestyle machine stitching. This was made during 2020 and the beginning of 2021, when there were many thoughts about the pandemic, isolation, politics, racial justice. Somehow we each had to find our own center in the public cacophony. And too, the solitude of quarantine challenged us with the internal noise of our own thoughts. This flag was an almost year-long meditative process to peel back layers of thoughts both internal and external, to empty until the silence that is eternally beneath it all was stitched into the fibers. It is a prayer for us all, reminding that we always have access to silence beneath our thoughts.
